At Compass House, we are always grateful for the generosity of our community partners who step up to support homeless and runaway youth. This month, we extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible women of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. (ΣΓΡ) for their dedication and generosity. Their recent efforts to organize two donation drives for Compass House have made a significant impact, providing essential items such as clothing, suitcases, and personal care products to help meet the immediate needs of our clients.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a historically African American, international collegiate, and non-profit community service organization founded on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Established by seven African American women, the sorority was created to support Black women pursuing degrees in education. Over the years, it has grown into a well-respected organization committed to service, leadership, education, and health awareness. Notably, it is the only sorority among the four historically African American National Pan-Hellenic Council sororities that was founded at a predominantly white institution rather than at Howard University. Guided by their slogan, “Greater Service, Greater Progress,” the women of Sigma Gamma Rho continue to lead efforts that uplift communities across the country.
Beyond their generous donations, members of Sigma Gamma Rho visited Compass House to share more about their mission and learn about the vital work we do to support vulnerable youth. Their visit was an inspiring exchange of ideas and values, reinforcing the importance of service and advocacy in strengthening our communities.
